The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Good Morning!
Although this time of year brings about a lot of busy, busy, busy, it also brings cheer and excitement and a wonder that you can't get any other time. Here at school we are starting off the week with some narrative writing, adding and subtracting with word problems, and discovering how maps work.  During writing, we are learning how to use details to add a beginning that begs to be read. Along with that, the students are really focused on correctly applying the capitalization and punctuation.
Around the room there are sprinkles of Christmas cheer. As the weeks progress, more and more will be added. An elf may visit us as well...

NOTE: There is NO math homework this week. We are focusing on reading and getting back into our routine.

Upcoming Events:
Wednesday, November 30: Library
Wednesday, December 7: Holiday Shop at 10:00 a.m.
Friday, December 9: PBIS Assembly
Monday, December 12 - Friday, December 23: 10 Days of Festivities for the First Grade - Look for a calendar of events in your child's folder.

Planning ahead: Instead of exchanging gifts, each students is asked to bring in a small stocking stuffer for everyone in class. The gift can be small candy, erasers, bouncy balls, markers, little cars, miniature play - doe, candy canes, etc. This should not be expensive. We make stockings in school, and a little elf fills them the night of the 22nd: ). If you are able to participate, please send in your gift by Monday, December 19th.  Thank you so much!

Holiday Hustle and Bustle

Yesterday, I was in Macy's waiting in line for early Christmas shopping. You can imagine, it took some time for me to get up to the register. Once there, my order took a bit of time as well.  The ladies that were helping me were patient and so apologetic for the long wait. My sentiment to them was that it's that time of year. We all have to wait, we all have to be ready to be help one another during this season. As you are out and about this time of year, try to role model for our kids, for our society, how patience is so important. We all run late, we all have places to be, we all have things to do... Let's be ready to share cheer and leave people happier than when they were before they talked with us.

This week is a regular week before all the hustle and bustle.

Next week:
Monday, November 21: Regular School Day
Tuesday, November 22: Half Day for Kids, Parent Teacher Conferences in the evening.
Wednesday, November 23: No School for Kids, Parent Teacher Conferences in the morning.
Thursday and Friday, November 24 and 25: Thanksgiving Recess

I will be sending out email reminders to those parents who have conferences and times for the conferences.

Have a great week!

Another Short Week

Good Evening! As you know, Friday we have the day off to celebrate Veterans Day.  If you know someone who is a veteran or are one yourself, thank you for your sacrifice for being without your loved ones. Not only is having veterans a source of pride in our family, but we also know hardships due to the duties they have. Happy Veterans Day to all of those that help guarantee our freedoms.

Today we had library. If your child didn´t bring his/her book today, please have him/her bring it tomorrow to return. Thank you.

We are at the end of our math unit for geometry. The assessment is Monday, and we will then begin Unit 3. This encompasses more adding and subtracting strategies and word problems.

This week the children were introduced to nonfiction writing. They are learning to be the teacher in their books and provide a lot of information on topics they know quite a bit about. Ask your child what his/her book is about. They have a lot of great information to share.

Upcoming Events:
Tuesday, November 22 - Half Day of School and Evening Conferences
Wednesday, November 23 - No School for Students and Morning Conferences
Thursday and Friday, November 24 and 25 - Thanksgiving Recess

Afternoon Update

Hi Families!

It seems that the homework was not accurately placed in the mailboxes last night. As employer, I take full responsibility for the confusion. Tonight the homework is coming home for anyone who did not receive it yet. Please have your child complete one page per night to keep on track. I am working to remedy this confusion.

Just a reminder, check our school's website as well as this blog for days off, half days, party announcements, etc. And if you haven't yet, please sign up for Remind 101 (see a few posts back). You can receive announcements through text or email. Thank you!

The Magic Pumpkin

The magic pumpkin grew some adorable little pumpkins for us last night! Oh my goodness, we were so excited to see so many little pumpkins outside our window this morning! There are enough for us to share with our reading buddies this afternoon. The kids are going to get to paint their magic little pumpkins and bring them home on Monday. It was such an exciting morning!

Hello Families,

How is everyone? I am so sorry to have neglected my blog last week! Let's catch up.
This week has been Red Ribbon Week to reinforce staying away from drugs or harmful substances for our bodies. All the super hero costumes and shirts were adorable to see.

Today, we had our assembly to kick off One School, One Book. For those of you who are new to our building, each year our committee chooses a story that can be suited the best to our whole population. Each family in our school gets a book and as a community we read the book.

This year our book is... Sorry I cannot tell you! To get the book, we are inviting everyone to Night at the Village tonight from 6:00 to 7:30. There are all types of activities set up. Your child has a yellow dot to bring because there are two teams, and we are hoping that all of us on the YELLOW team (Team Schaffelberger) will show up tonight to get their book. This event is an amazing way to bring everyone together in doing one thing as a whole school (previous fliers have gone home). I hope to see you there!

Upcoming Events:

Monday, October 31st:
1.Halloween Party - Thank you to those families that have signed up to help out or to send in supplies! Your child can wear their costumes in. We ask that there are no weapons brought to school. Thank you.
2. Monday is also a half day. Dismissal is at 11:10.

Wednesday, November 9th: Library

Friday, November 11th: No School in Observance of Veteran's Day

Tuesday/Wednesday, November 22/23rd: Parent Teacher Conferences

Your kids are just amazing, and I cannot believe how much they have grown both academically and maturity wise already! Just love them!
